Glaciers President, Jason Schultz, reports on the health of the club.
May 21, 2010
Glacier Families,
We've had quite a spring as a club, specifically as it relates to the closing of Face Off Circle. I've spent numerous days and evenings working towards the best solution for the kids and the club. I'm happy to report that we've signed an agreement with the new ownership of Face Off Circle and we'll continue to practice and play at "the Home of the Glaciers". We did pursue numerous alternative options, and nearly came to agreement with The Rink at Warwick. But the terms and conditions being asked of us by Warwick, the DVHL's desire that we do everything possible to align with the new ownership of FOC, and the equitable terms presented to us by Face Off made the decision to stay quite easy. The rink is opening for public skate this coming weekend, men's leagues have commenced, and numerous upgrades are planned for the summer. The second of two Zamboni's are in place and the new scoreboard is scheduled for delivery in early June. A restaurant is planned for the second floor and the Pro Shop will be operated out of the large meeting room in the lobby of rink 1. I'm confident that this will be a new beginning for the rink, and we're helping as best we can to make them successful.
Beyond the drama of securing our "home" for the upcoming season, we recently completed evaluations and posted the teams for the upcoming season. As of today, we have nine teams secured, with an additional two being finalized. Given the uncertainty that hovered over us as evaluations were beginning, I'm thrilled and amazed that we've been able to maintain the same number of teams we fielded last season. It's a tribute to all of the Glacier families and coaches who weathered the storm and allowed us to remain one of the strongest organizations in the DVHL. Your coaches will be contacting you shortly to welcome you to their team(s) and I'm enthusiastic about the season that awaits us.
A couple of things to be aware of in the coming weeks. First, the invoices for the upcoming season will be sent out in the next week or so with the first installment due in June and the final payment due in September. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact our Treasurer Sharon Dugan (GlacierTreasurer@comcast.net).
Secondly, you will be receiving information on the dates for uniform fittings for the upcoming season. We anticipate 2-3 dates for you to place your order. Our goal is to have all orders in place by late June so please do what you can to be at one of the fittings so your player has their uniforms in plenty of time for the beginning of the season.
Finally, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank two of our Board members who are "retiring" after numerous years of dedicated service. Deanne McNally (Scheduler) and Darrel Dundore (Secretary) have spent countless hours behind the scene's to make the Glaciers, and your child's hockey experience, the best that it could be. The BOD has enjoyed working with them, but even more importantly, we cherish their friendship. They will be missed.
That said, we welcome our new BOD members: Sally Loeffel (Scheduler) and Jim Bagdon (Secretary & Registrar). They have big shoes to fill but their engagement to date shows they are more than capable. Welcome Sally and Jim.
In closing, I want to re-emphasize how impressed I am with you, the membership of the Glaciers. It would have been understandable to move on given the circumstances that faced us this spring, but you chose to remain a part of Glacier Nation. The storm has now subsided, and we see our best days ahead of us in our new, old rink. On behalf of the Board of Directors I thank you.
Have a great summer and I hope to see you at the rink. Only 113 days until the DVHL season begins!
Jason Schultz
Glaciers President
